RESOLUTION 1992/26 Resolution E92r026 30 July 1992 41st plenary meeting World social situation The Economic and Social Council, Recalling its resolutions 1989/72 of 24 May 1989 and 1991/4 of 30 May 1991 and General Assembly resolution 46/95 of 16 December 1991, Acknowledging the relationship between development, including social development, and the enjoyment by everyone of economic, social and cultural rights, as well as civil and political rights, and recognizing the importance of creating the conditions whereby everyone may enjoy these rights, as set out in the International Covenants on Human Rights, Noting that in paragraph 4 of its resolution 1991/4 the Secretary-General was requested to reorient the draft framework for the 1993 report on the world social situation so that it was in consonance with the requests set forth in paragraph 4 of its resolution 1989/72, and to submit it to the Council for consideration at its substantive session of 1992, Bearing in mind the importance of a well-balanced report on the world social situation for increasing international awareness of the efforts being made towards achieving the goals of social progress and better standards of living, established in the Charter of the United Nations, as well as of the obstacles to further progress, Deeply concerned about the continued worsening of the economic situation in many developing countries, particularly the least developed countries, as evidenced by the significant decline in living conditions, the persistence and increase of widespread poverty in a large number of those countries and the decline of their main social and economic indicators, Bearing in mind that certain developing countries have been able to achieve some economic and social progress, Having considered the draft framework for the 1993 report on the world social situation, contained in the report of the Secretary-General, 1. ... RESOLUTION 1986/14 Member Name E86r014 21 May 1986 16th plenary meeting Improvement of the work of the Commission for Social Development The Economic and Social Council, Noting the Declaration on Social Progress and Development, based on the Charter of the United Nations and solemnly proclaimed on 11 December 1969, Reaffirming the lasting validity and importance of the principles and objectives set forth in the Declaration, Bearing in mind General Assembly resolutions 2543 (XXIV) of 11 December 1969 and 34/59 of 29 November 1979 on the implementation of the Declaration, in which all Governments and appropriate organizations of the United Nations system were urged, in their policies, plans, programmes and implementation machinery, to continuously take into consideration the principles, objectives, means and methods of the Declaration on Social Progress and Development, and to take due account of its provisions in their bilateral and multilateral relations in the field of development, Recalling its resolutions 10 (II) of 21 June 1946 on the Temporary Social Commission, 830 J (XXXII) of 20 August 1961 on the strengthening of the work of the United Nations in the social field and 1139 (XLI) of 29 July 1966, in which it adopted the present mandate and present designation of the Commission for Social Development, Taking into account its resolution 1985/36 of 29 May 1985 on the progress of work of the Commission for Social Development, Noting that the Commission is experiencing difficulties in giving proper attention to all items of its agenda owing, especially, to lack of time, Taking note of General Assembly resolution 40/98 of 13 December 1985 on improvement of the role of the United Nations in the field of social development, in which the Assembly invited the Economic and Social Council to consider, at its first regular session of 1986, existing ways and means of improving the work of the Commission, Taking into account the deliberations of the Economic and Social Council at its first regular session of 1985 and at its present session on the work of the Commission for Social Development, Mindful of the need to find appropriate measures, including measures relating to the frequency and duration of meetings, to enable the commissions of the Council to discharge properly their important functions, 1. ... RESOLUTION 1985/36 Member Name E85r036 29 May 1985 23rd plenary meeting Progress of work of the Commission for Social Development The Economic and Social Council, Recalling the terms of reference of the Commission for Social Development set forth in Economic and Social Council resolutions 10 (II) of 21 June 1946, 830 J (XXXII) of 2 August 1961 and 1139 (XLI) of 29 July 1966, Reaffirming the central role of the Commission for Social Development within the United Nations in considering matters relating to social development, Reaffirming that, within the United Nations system, the Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs of the Department of International Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat has a major role to play in matters relevant to social development, Recognizing the importance for the Commission for Social Development of exchanges of information on activities with other functional commissions of the Economic and Social Council with mandates in the social development sector, in particular the Commission on the Status of Women and the Population Commission, Concerned that the Commission should have available to it sufficient information on social development activities within the United Nations system to enable it to make an appropriate contribution towards the fulfilment of overall development objectives, and to provide appropriate direction to the Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs with respect to its work in the field of social development, Recalling General Assembly resolutions 36/228 A and B of 18 December 1981, in which guidelines were laid down by which agencies in the United Nations system were to create mechanisms for the evaluation of their work, and in which the Secretary-General was requested to strengthen the United Nations evaluation system through a series of five separate actions, including self-evaluation, Recognizing that programmes in the field of social development are formulated within the framework of the medium-term plan, and of the biennial budgets established in accordance with that plan, 1. ... RESOLUTION 1983/13 Member Name E83r013 26 May 1983 Unified approach to development analysis and planning in the field of social integration through popular participation The Economic and Social Council, Mindful of the pledge of Member States to take joint and separate action in co-operation with the United Nations to promote higher standards of living for all segments of the population and to ensure full employment and conditions of economic and social progress for the achievement of social justice and social equality, Bearing in mind the fact that the Declaration on Social Progress and Development, contained in General Assembly resolution 2542 (XXIV) of 11 December 1969, stressed the interdependence of economic and social development in the wider process of growth and change, Bearing in mind also the fact that in article 2 of the Declaration on Social Progress and Development, the Assembly proclaimed the necessity for the elimination of all forms of inequality, exploitation of peoples and individuals, colonialism and racism, including nazism and apartheid, and other policies and ideologies opposed to the purposes and principles of the United Nations, Recognizing that social progress and development require the full utilization of human resources, including, in particular, the active participation of all elements of society in defining and achieving the common goals of development, as well as the assurance to disadvantaged population groups of equal opportunities for social and economic advancement in order to achieve an effectively integrated society, Conscious of the importance of the unified approach to development in the field of social integration through popular participation for the achievement of the social goals proclaimed in the Declaration on Social Progress and Development, as well as in the International Development Strategy for the Third United Nations Development Decade, contained in the annex to General Assembly resolution 35/56 of 5 December 1980, Convinced that the basic orientation of the activities of the Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs of the Department of International Economic and Social Affairs, which fell under the mandate of the Commission as the concept of “social integration”, must be prolonged and reinforced, 1. ...
