RESOLUTION 1993/19 Resolution E93r019 27 July 1993 43rd plenary meeting Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities The Economic and Social Council Recommends to the General Assembly the adoption of the following draft resolution: “Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities “The General Assembly, “Recalling Economic and Social Council resolution 1990/26 of 24 May 1990, in which the Council authorized the Commission for Social Development to consider, at its thirty-second session, the establishment of an ad hoc open-ended working group of government experts, funded by voluntary contributions, to elaborate standard rules on the equalization of opportunities for disabled children, youth and adults, in close collaboration with the specialized agencies, other intergovernmental bodies and non-governmental organizations, especially organizations of disabled persons, and in which it requested the Commission, should it establish such a working group, to finalize the text of those rules for consideration by the Council at its first regular session of 1993 and for submission to the General Assembly at its forty-eighth session, “Also recalling that in its resolution 32/2 of 20 February 1991 the Commission for Social Development decided to establish an ad hoc open-ended working group of government experts in accordance with Economic and Social Council resolution 1990/26, “Taking note with appreciation of the participation of many States, specialized agencies, intergovernmental bodies and non-governmental organizations, especially organizations of disabled persons, in the deliberations of the working group, “Noting with appreciation the generous financial contributions of Member States to the working group, “Welcoming the fact that the working group was able to fulfil its mandate within three sessions of five working days each, “Acknowledging with appreciation the report of the ad hoc open-ended working group to elaborate standard rules on the equalization of opportunities for disabled persons, “Taking note of the discussion in the Commission for Social Development at its thirty-third session on the draft standard rules, “1. ... RESOLUTION 1991/18 Resolution E91r018 30 May 1991 12th plenary meeting Violence against women in all its forms The Economic and Social Council, Recalling the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women, in which it was stated that violence against women was a major obstacle to the achievement of the objectives of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace, Bearing in mind the recommendations and conclusions arising from the first review and appraisal of the implementation of the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies, contained in the annex to its resolution 1990/15 of 24 May 1990, in particular the conclusion that violence against women in the family and society was pervasive and crossed lines of income, class and culture, and specifically recommendation XXII, which called for immediate action on the part of Governments, relevant agencies, women’s organizations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector to address the issue of violence against women, Noting its resolution 1988/27 of 26 May 1988, in which it called for the continuation of the consolidation of efforts to eradicate violence against women within the family and society, Noting also the relevant recommendations of the Sixth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders and of the Eighth Congress and the relevant observations of the Seventh Congress, Bearing in mind the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, adopted by the General Assembly in resolution 34/180 of 18 December 1979, which guarantees the right of women to equal status with men, Noting that, in its general recommendation No. ...
